Following our workshop on monday i've been thinking about possible ideas for a relief sculpture refrencing the painting of Edward Wortley Montagu. I think it would be quite interesting and exciting to use a combination of pieces of scrap and really shiny metal. The scrap metal could come from anywhere around the city (skips, the resistant materials room at your school, your garden shed etc.) and because of Sheffield's industrial heritage it might also help make the work a bit more relevent to people coming to the gallery. There was also some talk of incoorperating fabrics into the work because of the rather flowing clothes that Edward is modelling; therefore if anyone fancies raiding the textile sample section in John Lewis that would be most appreciated.
P.S. message for Susie, I would be very happy to take some photos of strangers in Sheffield with you and I have an important looking camera we could use so hopefully people would take us seriously!
Emily

Indeed that'd be great. In fact, are you free some time in the holidays to do it? Or even this friday I have a training day so would be able to go talk to stangers :)
If i'm correct you are the one with all the cool t-shirts, in which case we both go to King Edwards. However, I am not free on friday but will be free after the wednesday in the holidays so we could do it then. I'll post you a message in a few days to arrange it.
If you want, give me a ring on 07981765698 to arrange a time.
What year are you in? I think I know who you are but would be highly embarrased if I'm wrong :) I'm thinking the girl who is always in the art rooms and frankly amazing at drawing?
Without sounding too big-headed I think I meet your description :) Y13 going out with Sian Leary's bro... Really sorry but I don't think i'm going to be able to do the photos before next week; i seem to have developed a cough/cold, probably revenge for too many late nights, chocolate cakes and cocktails on holiday :) ah well, what else are half-terms for?
Visual Dialogues is a Tate Galleries project which will be run in partnership with Graves Art Gallery and Sheffield Youth Arts Forum, as well as other regional galleries. The purpose of the project is to develop creative interpretations in order to engage audiences with hisorical works in the collection. Graves Art Gallery will host a small selection of contemporary work from the Tate collection to faciltate the creation of the interactives.
The work that has been borrowed from the Tate is Butterfly Catchers by Hannah Starkey, Self-Portrait As A Business Man by Pawel Althamer and Boats by Bethan Huws.

Ahh didn't know you were going out with Sian Leary's brother! That's cute :)
Too true about half terms but I have luckily managed to escape any penance for my partying!
See you Monday
